A5 spiral-bound dotted notebook, 140 pages - The ART OF CHIMERAS series revisits medieval bestiaries, natural history plates, and scientific treatises by great observers of living things such as Ulisse Aldrovandi or Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon. Leaf-birds, floral mammals, plant and animal creatures intertwine in an inspired watercolor aesthetic of naturalistic iconography and ancient engravings.
The chimera, a Greek mythological creature mentioned in Homer's Iliad, initially has the body of a lion, the head of a goat, and the tail of a serpent. It symbolizes the unknown and the marvelous in ancient literature.
In the Middle Ages, the chimera left the realm of myth to integrate into illuminated manuscripts, bestiaries, and naturalistic treatises, where it became a symbol, an allegory, and an enigma.
The Curious Notebooks Collection is an illustrated gallery to take with you: poetic female portraits, unique bestiaries, amusing scenes or mischievous animals transform the 140 pages into a walking confidant, whose beauty one almost dares not disturb by writing. Limited edition illustrated covers are little gems for collectors and stationery lovers.
