A5 spiral bound dotted notebook, 140 pages - The ART OF CHIMERAS series revisits medieval bestiaries, naturalist plates, and scientific treatises by great observers of life such as Ulisse Aldrovandi and Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon. Leaf-birds, floral mammals, and plant and animal creatures intertwine in a watercolor aesthetic inspired by naturalistic iconography and ancient engravings.
The chimera, a Greek mythological creature mentioned in Homer's Iliad, initially had a lion's body, a goat's head, and a serpent's tail. It symbolizes the unknown and the marvelous in ancient literature.
In the Middle Ages, the chimera left the realm of myth to integrate illuminated manuscripts, bestiaries, and naturalist treatises, where it became a symbol, an allegory, and an enigma.
The Curious Notebooks Collection is an illustrated gallery to carry with you: poetic female portraits, unique bestiaries, amusing scenes or mischievous animals transform the 140 pages into a traveling confidant, whose beauty one almost dares not disturb by writing. The limited edition illustrated covers are small gems for collectors and stationery lovers.
Each item is printed on demand. Colors and placement may vary very slightly.
